Vernon Claro Moody, 79, passed away on November 10, 2023, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville. "Claro" was born on July 20, 1944, in Lenoir County to Herman and Kathleen (Hill) Moody. He proudly served in the US Marines.
“Claro” married Hazel Heath on September 27, 1997, and they shared 26 years of love and companionship. Together, they celebrated the birth of grandchildren and several great-grandchildren through the years.
He was known for his kindness and great sense of humor. He enjoyed softball, bowling, and working on find-a-word and crossword puzzles.
He spent most of his working years at DuPont.
Vernon Claro Moody is survived by his wife Hazel, his children Verna Moody and Beverly (Michael) Noble, as well as his stepchildren Roger (Tosca) Rouse, Dowell (Tina) Rouse, and Michelle (Daryl) Grimes. The following grandchildren/great-grandchildren also survive him: Michael Lee (Stephanie, Brooklyn, Mia), Timothy (Logan), Chad (Ashleigh, Holley), Jessica (Kennedi, Cameron, Karter), Timothy (Shelvia), Thomas (Briana, Linnze, David) Luke (Sydney), Isaiah (Baylea, Maverick), Chris, Jeffrey, Jared, Justin, and Kelly (Shamar). He is also survived by his sister, Elaine (Jim) Pennington.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Randall, his son Jeffrey, and his granddaughter Charity.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, November 14, at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning an hour before at the Pink Hill Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to attend.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the ECU Health Medical Center who ministered to him during his final hours.
