Verna Gray Whitfield, beloved daughter of Felix E. Gray and Verna B. Gray, passed away peacefully in hospice care on November 9, 2024 after a year-long battle with health issues. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Verna is survived by her son, Roger "Ricky" Whitfield and wife Amy of Deep Run, NC; her daughter, Sonya Whitfield and wife Lisa Corner of Princeton, WV; and her brother, Gene Gray and wife Iris of Kinston, NC. Verna’s legacy also includes her grandson, Justin Whitfield, and four great-grandchildren, Cassadee, Ellie, Caeden, and Dawsyn. She cherished her relationships with her nieces and nephews: Michael Gray and wife Selina, Michelle Gray, Andrea Mills and husband Geoff, Lou Ann Gray, Cindy Gray, and Lane Gray.
An active member of the Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church for many years, Verna found joy and purpose in her faith and community until her health would no longer allow her to fully participate. She had a passion for reading and loved dining out with her friends, creating memories that will be treasured by those who were fortunate to know her.

Visitation will be at Pink Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Funeral service celebrating Verna's life will be held at the Deep Run Free Will Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her memory and the impact she had on so many lives.
