Tay Rett Buie Hood

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tay Rett Buie Hood, a beloved friend and dedicated professional, who left us on December 24, 2024, after many years of failing health, surrounded by her family (Birth and Chosen).   She was born on October 27, 1966, to the late Robert (Bob) L. Hood Sr. and Rowena Buie. Tay grew up in Pink Hill, where her parents owned and operated R.L. Hood Pharmacy. She graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston, NC, and carried the values instilled in her through her upbringing throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert (Lonn) Hood Jr., stepmother Jennie Hood, stepsister Penny Huneycutt, and stepbrother Bill Gray. Tay is survived by her beloved niece Emillie Hood; stepsisters Jeanette Gray, Helen Marshburn, and Tina Williams; as well as stepbrothers Buddy Gray and Ronny Gray.

Tay Rett attended  Peace College in Raleigh, NC, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree in 1985. After completing her education, she embarked on a career with MJA Investigations from 1991 to 2009. Her strong work ethic and dedication to her profession were evident throughout her tenure. In 2009, Tay relocated back home and found fulfillment at Coastal Carolina Neuropsychiatric Center, where she held various positions that showcased her care and compassion in the Mental Health field.  Tay loved her work family and was always grateful to the entire team for the love and support they have shown her since her first day of employment.  These are her “Chosen Family”. A private and complex person by nature, Tay cherished her small social circle. Those who were part of this circle experienced the warmth of her kindness and generosity; if you were considered family by Tay, you knew you had a steadfast supporter for life. Tay's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered for the love she shared with others. Per her wishes, there will be no services. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Her  memory will forever remain a treasured part of our lives
