Sallie Kornegay

Sallie Kornegay , 92, of Kenansville , NC, passed peacefully into eternity at Bethesda Nursing Home, early Sunday morning, December 10, 2023.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 11am, in the Chapel of the Pink Hill Funeral Home. Sallie's Granddaughter, Pastor Michelle Allen, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Simmons Family Cemetery.

Sallie was born on May 16, 1931, in Duplin County, to the late Sarah Lillie Brock.

Sallie is preceded in death, by her first husband, Archie S. Hall, Sr. They were blessed with 5 children: Sarah Ann Boerst of Goldsboro, NC, Archie S. Hall, Jr. of Hertford, NC, Betsy Creech of Four Oaks, NC, Mary Ann Hall (unknown) and Jo Ann Hall (unknown).

Sallie was also preceded in death by Henry Fulton Hall. They were blessed with two children: the late Bertha Mae Hall of Fayetteville, NC and George Manley Hall and wife Judy of Garland, NC.

Sallie was preceded in death by her last husband, John William Kornegay. They were married over 30 years.

Sallie’s life was not always an easy life. Her first husband, Archie Hall, Sr. contracted  Tuberculosis and was confined to a sanatorium for treatment. Sallie experienced her greatest heartache when her 5 children, from this marriage, were placed in foster care or for adoption. Her youngest two children were raised by their father, Henry Fulton Hall and his mother.

Sallie carried the memory of her children with her always. She enjoyed tending a big garden with her late husband, John William Kornegay. Much of the vegetables they grew she and John William would can or freeze for the winter. They also shared their crops with neighbors and family.

Sallie’s first cousin, Lurlene Futrell, was a faithful friend and one whom Sallie could always depend on to assist her.  

Patricia Bordeaux was a special friend who often took Sallie shopping.

Sallie’s greatest joy was getting to know the children she did not raise but always loved. In the last years of her life, her children visited her and made sure her needs were met. They also made sure she had a good supply of Dr. Pepper and pork skins. This was precious time God gave to George and Judy, Betsy, Sarah, and Archie.

Sallie was blessed with grandchildren: Michelle Allen of Selma, George Fulton Hall (Skeeter) of Texas, Melissa Markley of Parkton, Lisa Markley of Parkton, and Nicholas Lancette of Pennsylvania, Daniel Montoya of Garland, NC and Joshua Montoya of Garland, NC.

Sallie’s great grandchildren: Jacob Allen, Jordan Allen(Candice), Jeremy Allen(Briana), Abigail Allen, Cooper Hall, Tucker Hall, Josh, Corina, and Cecily.

Sallie was blessed to live to be part of 5 living generations with the birth of her  great-great grandchildren: Brooklyn Noelle Allen, William August Allen, Elliott Wiggins and Levi Salois.
