Ronnie Hugh Howard, 70 of New Bern, NC passed away in his home suddenly before the New Year. He was born on January 27, 1950 to the late Hugh Hallet Howard and Ozell Futrell Howard Klein and step-father Aaron Klein.  Even though Ronnie was an only child, he grew up with over 30 cousins and was very close to his extended family. Great memories were made through the years at family reunions and gatherings. Ron was an honors graduate of Grainger High School and attended N.C. State University. He continued his education as a dedicated lifelong scholar. Ron was a prolific writer and authored a commissioned biographical book as well as other published works. He was exceptionally articulate and loved to read and research his interests, including literature, music, philosophy, politics and the Civil War. He was a past President of the Civil War Historical Society in New Bern. His free spirited outgoing personality made him an easy friend to many. By far it should be said he was a deeply dedicated son attending to his Mother in her last years of life.

Ron is survived by his Aunts, Eloise Howard Hemby, Gloria Annette Futrell Sumerell, Helen Jane Weaver and husband Eddie, Doris Futrell and Evelyn Futrell; and his beloved Howard and Futrell cousins.

Ronnie Hugh Howard was an exceptional person and will be greatly missed by family and friends. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to share fond memories, stories, and pictures of Ronnie on the Pink Hill Funeral Home website.
