Ronald "Melvin" Mercer, Sr was born on June 29th, 1952 in Duplin county and lost his courageous battle with Covid on November 23,2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was the son of Eula Mae Mercer and Lloyd Jasper Mercer. He was a devoted Daddy, husband, brother, uncle, and most importantly, Papa. He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Houston Mercer on April 8th, 1970. Together, they raised a family full of love for the last 51 years.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie Marshall Mercer, Marvin Jasper Mercer(Zara) and Randy Mercer(Sherry), his mother and father, Eula Mae Mercer and Lloyd Jasper Mercer, his grandparents Sarah Elizabeth Brock, Charlie Thomas Brock, Roland Jasper Mercer and Edith Mae Mercer and his oldest granddaughter, Ashley Ann Mercer.
He leaves behind his wife, JoAnn of Beulaville, his two children, Billie Jo Brown and husband Shannon Brown of Deep Run and Ronald "Ronnie" Mercer Jr and wife Hemda of Wildwood, FL, grandkids Matthew Penuel and Jessica Penuel of Leland, Justin Penuel and Jessie Penuel of Pink Hill, Josh Mercer and Mindy Thomsen of Brainard, MN, Shawn Mercer and Stephanie Cruz of Greensboro and Shoshana Slaby and Alec Slaby of Wildwood, FL, 2 step grandkids John Brown and Holly of Beulaville and Jake Brown and Zaida of Beulaville, three great grandkids, Brantley, Anna and Rhett, 5 sisters: Catherine and Larry Sullivan of Mt. Olive, Karen and Vance Hill of Beulaville, Charlene Mercer of Kinson, Carolyn Mercer of Beulaville and Nancy and Paul Sensing of Roseboro, several nephews and nieces,
He will be missed by many but will forever be in our hearts and on our minds.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 6:00 pm with visitation to follow from the Pink Hill Funeral Home.
