Mildred Turner Smith

Mildred Turner Smith, 96, of Deep Run, NC, passed away January 28, 2025 at the North Carolina State Veteran’s Home in Kinston, NC.  She was born on August 28, 1928, to Phin and Myra Turner in Duplin County.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, F.M. Smith, and sons, Marion Smith, Jr. and Lynn Smith.

Mildred attended Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Covenant Sunday School Class and an honorary member of the Woman’s Auxiliary.  She enjoyed fishing, gardening and sharing her vegetables with family and friends.  Mildred was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and loving grandmother (Mema).  She was always there for her friends and family when needed.  She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, strength, wisdom, and her witty sayings.

She is survived by daughters, Regina Smith Hawkins (Bill) of Deep Run and Karen Smith Hall of Kinston; grandchildren, Barry Hawkins (Rebecca) of Kinston, Lindsay Hawkins Howard of Kinston, Corbett Hall (Allie) of Garner, Garrison Hall of Washington, D.C., Justin Smith (Jessica) of Beulaville, Elizabeth Littleton (Scott) of Albertson, Kim Lane (Doug) of Willow Springs, Jamison Tolar of Kinston; great grandchildren, Cailey Howard, Eliza Hawkins, Will Hawkins, Riley Smith, Mason Smith, Everleigh Smith, Olivia Thomas, Thomas Howard, Bella Lane, and Blake Lane.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the North Carolina State Veteran’s Home for the excellent care during Mildred’s stay.

Funeral services will be held at Pink Hill Funeral Home in Pink Hill, NC on Friday, January 31st at 7 p.m. with visitation to follow.  Burial will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 11 a.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC.  Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions can be made to the building fund at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church in care of Bill Hawkins, 3556 Mark Smith Road, Deep Run, NC 28525.
