Melda Carol Harper Beyer was lovingly welcomed into Heaven on April 7, 2026. Her mansion was ready.
Melda was born on October 14, 1942, to Harvey and Magdalene Harper. She was the baby of the family and was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leamon and Lemuel; her sisters, Iris and Daisy; and a special friend, Billy Brown.
Melda was a lifelong member of Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church, where she also served as an elder. She was a hard worker who deeply loved her family. During her days off, she especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, watching them play sports and participate in various activities.
She found joy in her flower gardens, watching birds at her feeders, and visiting with family and friends. Melda also enjoyed playing canasta and was always ready for a competitive game of cards. She was a wonderful cook, and many were blessed to enjoy meals and desserts from her kitchen.
Melda is survived by her children, Carol Hoover (Danny), Richard Beyer, and Paula Allen (Tim); her grandchildren, Jessica Locke (Chris), Riley Hoover, Madison Howard (Justin), Mary Grace Beyer, and Colton Allen; and her four great-grandsons, Cole Locke, Carter Locke, Mason Howard, and Jackson Howard. She is also survived by her sister, Ada Moody (Kenneth), and was loved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Cardinal Hospice for their care and compassion, and to the staff of Premier Nursing and Rehab in Jacksonville.
Flowers are welcome, as they were one of Melda’s greatest pleasures. Memorial donations may also be made to Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church in memory of Melda and mailed to 279 Bland Howell Road, Kinston, NC 28504.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Pink Hill Funeral Home in Pink Hill, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m.. Burial will follow at Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church.
Family and friends are welcome to visit at the home of Richard Beyer, 285 Southerland Road, Albertson.
