Janice Maxine Gray Jackson, 79, passed away on February 27, 2023, surrounded by family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.
Maxine was born on March 28, 1943, to the late Walter Jasper and Verna Langston Gray of Deep Run, NC. Maxine grew up in the Deep Run area and graduated from Deep Run High School (now South Lenoir) in 1961.
Maxine married Robert Glenn Jackson on October 6, 1962, at Howard’s Chapel in Deep Run, NC, where the marriage was blessed with two children, Dwayne and Nyra. They were sealed for all time and eternity on December 10, 1966, in the Oakland California LDS Temple.
Maxine worked at the Kinston Shirt Factory (which later became Hampton Industries), C. Brody’s Gift Shop, and Bijur-Delimon International until she retired in the early 2000. She also owned a craft store called the Craft Nook in Kinston, where she sold different arts and crafts and taught classes to the public, including plastering, painting, sewing, macramé, flower arrangements, and making quilts.
She was a member of the Woodington Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in different organizations, such as the women and young women of the ward. She also loved antiquing, gardening, going to the mountains, and listening to Gospel Music. The ones who truly knew her knew she could not go far without a Diet Coke, with some on standby or stopping at many convenience stores for a refill. She also loved being with her family, especially when a meal was prepared for the holidays.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert “Bobby” Jackson of Deep Run; son Dwayne Jackson and wife Janet of Snow Hill; daughter Nyra Moody and husband Michael of Deep Run; grandson Eric Moody and wife Erica of Fuquay-Varina; granddaughter Elizabeth “Lizzie” Moody of Deep Run, granddaughter Olivia Jones and husband Chase of Snow Hill; grandson Joshua Jackson of Greenville; great-grandchildren Adeline Moody, Savannah Moody, Holland Jones, and Connor Moody with another great-granddaughter, Grayson Jones, due late April; brother Forrest Gray of Grifton; sister Susan and husband Lee Stroud of Deep Run; special brother-in-law Todd Jackson and wife Candy of Wilmington. She is also survived by 3 nieces, 3 nephews, and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Jasper and Verna Langston Gray.
Visitation will be held at Pink Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., and the funeral will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Woodington Ward LDS church building with the burial following at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
