Mason Perez, age 5, left this world far too soon on March 10, 2025, but his love, laughter, and light will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Though his time here was brief, he lived every day with a joy and energy that brought smiles to everyone around him.
Mason was the beloved son of Megan Tyndall and Cornelio Perez Jr., and the cherished little brother of Maci, Jonathan, and Riley. He was the adored grandson of James and Caroline, Cornelio Perez Sr., and Lori, and the great-grandson of Sally and Tony Blackmon. His Uncle Tyler held a special place in his heart, and Great Uncle Kenneth Tyndall, as did his many cousins, friends, and extended family.
Mason’s best buddies were like family to him—Brandon Moody and his sons Brantley and Colton, Tyler Hardison & Lizz Woodruff and their children McKinley, Brexton, Briley, and Chase, and Cody & Jennifer Grimes and their daughters Maddie, Mackenzie, Macey, and Maegan, & Josh & Victoria Moody. He also shared countless fun-filled moments with his dad’s co-workers, who became his honorary uncles and aunts: “Tiny,” Parker, Chris, Hunter, Stephan, Nakotah Grimaldo, and Kaytlin Hunt, along with their children Caydence and Chenoa.
He was preceded in death by his great-uncles James Price and Ronnie Price; great-aunt Louise Jones; grandmother Judy Perez, great-grandmothers Maxine Tyndall, and Linnie Price; and great-grandfathers Durwood Tyndall, Kenneth Goff, and Milton Price.
Mason was a child full of adventure, kindness, and a love for life that could brighten even the darkest days. His laughter was contagious, his hugs were the best, and his spirit was as boundless as the sky. Though he has left our arms, he will never leave our hearts.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 6-9 p.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home for family and friends. A celebration of Mason’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Pink Hill Funeral Home, followed by his burial at the family’s cemetery on Emmett Drive in Kinston.
Fly high, sweet Mason. You will always be our sunshine.
