Martin Luther Houston, 92, departed peacefully from his earthly life on August 4th, 2022 at home. He was born May 22, 1930 to the late Ingram and Laura Houston from Potters Hill where he also planted roots with his wife. November 20th, 1954 he married his sweetheart, Peggy Smith Houston, Ma as he called her, and they built their life together. In 1956 they welcomed their firstborn, Teresa Ann Houston Decker, ‘Coot” as Daddy called her. She married Philip Decker and together they added to our family Chris Decker and wife Jessica and their daughters, Taylor and Anna Lynn Decker. Down the road apiece they added another son, Cameron Decker. In 1958 they welcomed their second daughter, Dorothy Ma"Rie" Houston Turner, “Possum” as Daddy named her and she married Joey Turner

He leaves behind a sister, Effie Houston Avery and her family and brother, Stacy Houston and wife Judy and their family. Waiting for him in Heaven with open arms were his parents, Ingram and Laura and his little sister, Myrtle.

He was drafted in the Army on February 12, 1951 and served as PFC, Machine Gun Ammunition Bearer in Company C of 278th Regimental Combat Team. After this he settled down in Potters Hill to be a farmer, painter, carpenter and a jack of all trades, but farming was his way of life. He never met a stranger and he knew everybody and everybody knew him. He was always Martin whether you were a millionaire or a pauper. He was one of the best storytellers and we learned a lot from him. He embedded us with grit, good work ethics, kindness, stubbornness, to work hard, and to be thankful.

The family would especially like to thank Community Care and special caregivers Amy, Heather, Waconda and the many others that had a part in his care.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pink Hill Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Pink Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Pink Hill Funeral Home with burial following at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
