Joseph Edward Scott

Joseph Edward Scott (74), of Albertson, NC, passed away peacefully at home with his eternal mate by his side on November 6, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver “Tip” and Velma Scott.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty years, Rebecca Potter Scott; son Jacob Wayne Scott and wife Amanda; son Jonathan Edward Scott and wife Shannon; and son Jason Alan Scott.  Six Grandchildren; Alyssa and husband Cole, Ashlyn, Abigail, Landon, Madeline, and Lila along with many extended family members and friends.   

Joseph faithfully served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Within the church he held numerous callings including serving as Bishop of the Mount Olive Ward for many years.

He also held several political positions within the town of Mount Olive including the office of Mayor.  He served on the Mount Olive Exchange Club.  He was also a member of the Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce where he served as president, as well as the Wayne County Development Alliance. 

Visitation will be held at the Albertson Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 3554 NC Hwy 111 & 903, Albertson Wednesday, November 8th from 5 – 7 pm with the funeral service to immediately follow.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 9th, at Maplewood Cemetery located in Mount Olive, NC.

In lieu of flowers, Joseph has requested that donations be made to the Mount Olive Exchange Club (PO Box 583, Mt. Olive, NC  28365).  Donations will go towards the prevention of child abuse which was a cause that he was extremely passionate about.
