James (Jim) William Nicholson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the age of 88.
Born in Dodge City, Kansas in 1936, Jim grew up instilled with a strong work ethic on the family farm. After graduating from Dodge City High School, he served proudly in the Marine Corps stationed in Jacksonville, North Carolina. There, a blind date set up by Ivan and Jean Dowdle blossomed into love. He married Iris Faye Howard Nicholson in August 1957, and together they built a life in Kinston, NC.
Jim's dedication extended to his career, working for over 30 years at Dupont and part time at Ralph Moody's Garage. His work ethic continued even after retirement, as he found joy in helping others at and working at United Auto Parts. He was a familiar face at Ma's Hotdog House, often sharing breakfast or lunch with his friends, the Hardisons.
Jim was a rock for his family. He supported each of his kids in their many endeavors and was their biggest fan! He loved coaching girls' softball for many years. He also found huge enjoyment in bowling leagues and tournaments.
Jim's faith was central to his life. A devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church, he treasured his Sunday School class and actively volunteered whenever needed. His love for Jesus and people shone through in all his interactions.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lois Nicholson, brother Myron Nicholson, and wife Iris Faye Nicholson. He leaves behind a loving legacy for his children, Mike Nicholson (Pink Hill), David Nicholson (Statesville), and Cindy Nicholson (Ayden); his grandson, Terrance Nicholson; sisters, Laverne Pitzer (Long Beach, CA) and Caren Stadig (Dodge City, KS); Nephew Charles Nicholson and wife Shawna (Dodge City KS), Niece DeKeta Schuckman and husband Mark (Dodge City, KS), Niece, Pam Howard (Pink Hill).
