James Arthur Jones
January 26, 1942 –February 7, 2025
James Arthur Jones passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025.
He was born on January 26, 1942, in Pink Hill, North Carolina, son of William Arthur Jones and Ernestine Greene Jones.
James left Lenoir County at a young age and moved to Brooklyn, NY where he grew up until he enlisted to serve our country honorably in the U. S. Army. He served two tours in Vietnam as a combat veteran in the First Infantry Division and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal “V” Device for his heroic actions on July 2, 1966 under intense hostile enemy fire. After Vietnam, he remained in the U. S. Army serving to train troops.
He always missed Pink Hill and returned to Lenoir County in the 1970s. He took a position in communications for Lenoir County eventually leading up to a lifelong career as a Paramedic and County Supervisor for Lenoir County. He enjoyed people and serving to care for them.
He is survived by his wife Rachael Jones; sons Curtis (Kim) and Chris Jones; daughter Shannon Jones; granddaughters Tanika Jones, Jasmine Jones; grandson CJ (Morgan) Jones; great-grandsons Cayden and Luca; close friends Ron (Lisonya) Simmons; goddaughter Ronasia Simmons; Tony (Dedra) Houston; sisters Patricia & Hilda Jones; brothers Michael & Tommy (Gwen) Jones; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jimmie, Ronnie, Robert; sisters Hazel, Tracy, Christine.
Services honoring James’s life and legacy will be a simple graveside service per his wishes.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
