Hughlene Murray Smith

Hughlene Murray Smith, age 88, passed away November 4, 2024 at her home in Rose Hill, NC. She was born May 13, 1936 to the late Glacus Best Murray and Mildred Atkinson Murray in Duplin County.

She was happily married to her high school sweetheart, James Douglas Smith, for 43 years until his death in 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Tommy Murray and a grandchild, Bradley Smith Rhodes.

Hughlene is survived by her daughters, Paula Crosland Martin and husband, Dale of Wilson, Joy Rhodes and husband Barney of Rose Hill, and Cindy Picollo of New Orleans, LA; six grandsons and pallbearers, Jeff (Amanda) and Eric Martin, Brent (Danna) and Chad Rhodes, Hunter and Jett Campbell; great grandchildren, Mady, Lucy, Maverick, Poppy, Jax, Riley, Chandler, Rivers and Lakes; Sister in law, Margaret Murray; nieces and nephews and many loving cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 7 at 2:00  from the Chapel of Pink Hill Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Reverand Don Meyers and Douglas Murray will officiate. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the Hospice Program of 3HC or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
