On January 4, 2025, Hannah Porterfield Heath--beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother--passed away peacefully in her home in Deep Run, North Carolina.
Hannah was born on September 30, 1940, in Monroe County, West Virginia. She left the mountains of West Virginia to attend Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing, of which she was a distinguished graduate in 1961. Her nurturing spirit shown through not just with her patients but with everyone she encountered in life. Shortly before graduating nursing school, Hannah met her beloved husband Ray, who she proposed to on leap day and married some 30 days after their fateful encounter in April 1960. Together they had an immeasurable loving bond that carried them through their countless travels throughout the United States while raising their three wonderful children: Laura, Robin, and Tim. Hannah was an avid collector of all things Raggedy Ann, hummingbirds, and gingerbread. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and that talent was greatly appreciated by her family who she lavished numerous hand stitched gifts upon. Her love spread to her entire blended family, who cherished their time with her, particularly Max, her devoted canine companion.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents--Wm. Powell Porterfield and Amelia Jo Laidley Porterfield, both of Monroe Country, West Virginia--and her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Jewelle Ray Heath. Left to cherish her memory and carry on her spirit are her children: Laura Heath, Robin Jennelle (Mark), and Timothy Heath (Melissa); grandchildren: Mason Jennelle (Talia), Haley Rae Jennelle Morin (Aubrey), Kelsey Cash (Tyler), Blake Cash (Chelsea), and Trey Cash (Kendall); great grandchildren Keller Barton, Heath and Powell Morin, Avery and Sophia Cash, Cohen Cash; and dear friend of 64 years, Barbara Holstein.
As the matriarch of the Heath family, she will be greatly missed, but we know that she is now at peace with the love of her life.
A private celebration of life ceremony will be held for her family at a later date.
