Ethelene Hill, our mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025. She was the daughter of John Grady and Mildred Taylor Grady and was born at home in Duplin County, North Carolina.
Ethelene was preceded in death by her husband, Rodolph Hill; her parents, John and Mildred Grady; her sisters, Myrtle Quinn, Eloise Taylor, Ida Pittman, Mary Howard and Mavis Miller; her brother JW Grady; and her beloved pets, Spike and Lela.
Ethelene is survived by her two children, Clarence Hill Jr. (Nola) and Debra Kay Heath; four grandchildren, Billy Hill (Sarah), Anita Sullivan (Pete), Rodney Heath (Amanda), and Matthew Hill (Jill); twelve great-grandchildren, Carter Hill, Cameron Hill, Eden Miller, Sam Sullivan, Hannah Sullivan, Cassie Raymo (Zack), Anah Heath, Kayden Heath, Miranda Sanders, Lena Cripe, Hailey Cripe and Ben Cripe; and one great-great-grandchild, Maddie Caliguire. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ethelene enjoyed working in her garden, especially growing collards. She loved going to yard sales. Before illness hindered her, Ethelene cherished meeting up with her friends at Bojangles. She spent many years working at Howell’s Child Care Center until she retired to care for her beloved husband, Rodolph, when he became ill.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Following the funeral service, we will proceed to the Byrd-Stroud Cemetery in Pink Hill for burial.
