Edward Keith Whaley

Edward Keith Whaley, affectionately known as 'Pa Root', 72 of Pink Hill died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Born May 13, 1952, to Norman and Cleo Whaley, he was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Patricia Whaley; three daughters, Crystal Noble (Michael) of Deep Run, Kimberly Farmer (David), and Katelyn Whaley (Todd), all of Pink Hill; six grandchildren, Camden Noble, Kaeden Noble, Carson Farmer, Cecily Farmer, Mason Wilson, and Maddox Wilson; special extended family, Darren and Amanda Powell and their children/grandchildren.

From an early age, Keith never met a ball or sport that he didn't like. He spent many years playing and then umpiring later in life. He was inducted into the Top Gun Umpire Hall of Fame in 2023 and the Southern Softball of America Hall of Fame in 2024,

In addition to his love of sports, he was always available and willing to help others. For twenty-five years, he served his community as a volunteer for Pink Hill Fire and Rescue.

Services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Jackson Heights Original Freewill Baptist Church located at 285 Camellia Street, Kinston, NC. Visitation will be held from 6-7 and a celebration of life will begin at 7 pm. His ashes will be spread in a private ceremony at a later date.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of 3HC Hospice for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Albertson Youth Sports Association in honor of Keith as he spent many hours playing, spectating, and umpiring in Albertson.
