Betsy Ava (Cox) Smith

Betsy Cox Smith, 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at UNC Lenoir in Kinston.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Wayne Cox; husband, Charles A. “Bud” Smith; nephew, Matthew Slane; stepdaughter, Joy Barfield; and sister-in-law, Sandra Smith.

Betsy was a member of Smith’s New Home Original Free Will Baptist Church where she was a faithful choir member and member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She was an educator in the Jones County School system for 30 years and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.  Betsy was a special person and friend to many folks who crossed her path.

Betsy is survived by her brother, David Cox and wife Judy; sister, Mary Emilie Slane; sisters-in-law, Linda Faye Jenkins and husband Carlton and Sue Akers and husband Bruce; step-son, Chuck Smith and wife Priscilla: several step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Deep Run.
