Basel Mason Hildreth

Basel Mason Hildreth,78, of Deep Run, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was a graduate of Pink Hill High School, worked in the glass business for many years, and was also a devoted and faithful member of Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church of Albertson.
Basel served honorably in the US Navy from 1965-1971, including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was deployed with the Marine Corps as a hospital corpsman (medic). He was the first medical contact for wounded soldiers on the battlefield. He touched many lives both on and off the battlefield.
Basel never married and had no children of his own, but he was blessed with many nephews and nieces who considered him more of a brother than an uncle. And there was his beagle buddies: “Binky” was his first, followed by “Rusty” and “Jake.” He had a special bond with his pets.
Basel loved NC State and amateur genealogy. He spent many hours researching family trees. He loved history of all kinds- particularly military history. If he knew your last name, he could probably tell you something about your ancestors.
Basel was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Anna Hildreth; sisters, Janie Sides and Mary F. Turner; brothers, Warren Hildreth, Andrew Hildreth and Edward Hildreth.
Basel is survived by his twin sister, Rachel Hancock of LaGrange; sister, Dorothy Carpenter of Wadesboro; and stepsister, Jean Morris of Polktown; brothers, Leonard Hildreth of Wadesboro and J.T. Hildreth of Peachland; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held following the service at Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Albertson.
