Allan Daniell Obituary

Allan Dewitt Daniell of Wilson passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born in Wilson, North Carolina on September 5, 1957, to Joanne and James Daniell.  After Allan graduated from Fike High School, he earned his BS in Business and Education from Atlantic Christian College. While at Atlantic Christian he played soccer for the Bulldogs and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Gamma Lambda Chapter. After graduation, Allan continued to be an advocate for the fraternity.

He worked for Electric Supply Company for 20 years before retiring and beginning a new career as an elementary physical education teacher for Wilson County Schools.  Allan retired from the school system in 2021 after 20 years of service. In addition to teaching, Allan loved to coach, spending much of his time on the ballfield; he was one of the founders of the Elm City Middle School Club tennis program, head coach for girls’ softball at Forest Hills Middle School, and assistant football coach at Forest Hills Middle School. After retiring, he took on several coaching roles for the JV and Varsity football teams at Hunt High School, and provided unofficial coaching support for the Greenfield golf team. He was an active member of First Christian Church of Wilson, where he served in many leadership roles. Allan loved NC State and Barton sports, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Most of all, Allan loved cheering (and occasionally coaching) on his grandchildren at their ballgames, dance recitals, and concerts.

Allan is survived by his wife, Libby Patterson Daniell; daughter, Grayson Moore and husband Travis of Walstonburg; stepsons, Lyn Owens and wife Erika of Richmond, Virginia; and Shawn Owens and wife Laura of Wilson. Grandchildren, Hannah Moore of Walstonburg, Daniela and Eric Owens of Richmond, Zachary and Abigail Owens of Wilson, and a new granddaughter due in December.  Brother Lynn Daniell and wife Sarah of Wilmington, sister Angela Turner and husband Tom of Albertson, and many loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26th, at First Christian Church of Wilson. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the Daniell home.
