Hugh Gregory Smith

                Hugh Gregory “Papa” Smith, 78, of 144 Gregory Smith Road, Albertson, made his journey to Heaven Friday, October 26, 2018 at Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville surrounded by his family.

                Gregory was born January 15, 1940 to Coy and Tessie Smith.  He graduated from B. F. Grady High School and attended Hardbargers Business School.  He was a semi-retired farmer, a life he thoroughly enjoyed and to which he was very dedicated.

                Gregory loved life, his family and his church.  He was most happy when he was surrounded by his family, especially when spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them to grow BIG watermelons, feed the farm animals, and enjoying life to its fullest.

                Gregory was a member of Christian Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he enjoyed videoing the Sunday morning worship service, helping to prepare 1st Saturday morning breakfast, helping to present The Gift each December and any other service that he could offer his help.

                Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, playing adult softball, and racing.  He especially enjoyed tractor pulling along with his wife and granddaughters.  In recent months, he enjoyed witnessing to anyone who would listen about his Lord and Savior.

                Gregory is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Linda Sue Howard Smith; sons, Lynn Smith and wife Jeanne of Kure Beach, Robby Smith and wife Loraine of Albertson; granddaughters, Bailey Smith-Furloni and Mario, Drewe Smith, Addison Edwards and Kenny, Gillian Williams and Allen, Cicely Basden and Dougie, Mattie Sowers and Rocky, and Katie Williamson; great-grandchildren, Ellis Coy Smith-Furloni, Allie Edwards, Raelynn Edwards, Maelyn Sowers, and Ross Sowers; Sisters, Linda Heath, Barbara Hill and Jack, Tennelia Westbrook; Sister-In-Law, Bobbie Bielby and Earl.

                He was preceded in death by his parents Coy and Tessie Smith, grandparents Dunn and Gertie Smith and William and Stella Smith, mother and father-in-law Bob and Ruth Howard.

                The family will receive friends at Christian Chapel Church at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29.  Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
