Horace Deaver Obituary

DEEP RUN – Horace Edward Deaver, 94, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his eternal wife of 71 years, Frances Evelyn Sugg Deaver and his parents, Jesse Jackson and Laura Belle Deaver, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by two brothers, Pete Graham Deaver, Robert Lee Deaver and one sister, Mary Virginia Tyndall; four daughters, Elizabeth Goodwin and husband Bob, of West Valley City, Utah; Peggy D. Pate and husband Ron, of Scott's Store; Joyce Deaver Bear and husband Gene, of Durham; Charlene Deaver Meadows and husband Aaron, of Kinston; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. “Daddy” grew up learning how to “fix” cars from his father, Jesse, in his father’s garage (the family business). He quickly realized he was “pretty good” and even enjoyed the work. As a result of the training from his dad, he worked throughout his life as a mechanic. On 26 July 1944, he joined the U.S. Army and was inducted at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His military specialty was Rifleman with the rank of PFC and was assigned to the 9th Armored Division, 60th Armored Infantry Battalion, Company B. His unit participated in the Rhineland, Central Europe Campaign. He was awarded several medals, including the European—African—Middle Eastern (EAME) Service Medal with 2 Bronze service stars and two Purple Hearts for wounds received in battle on 14 March 1945. He was a beloved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout his lifetime, he held various callings while serving in the Church. His most favorite “thing” to do was to read the scriptures and try to convert everyone to come unto Jesus Christ. He never knew a stranger and loved telling everyone about “the Gospel”. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday November 18, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Albertson Ward. Entombment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
