Helen Jewel Greer

Jewel Small Greer, 90, of the Pleasant Hill Community in Lenoir County, went to her new home on Monday, December 6, 2010. She went peacefully while at home surrounded by her children and other family members.

Jewel was born in Jones County on May 19, 1920 to the late Lewis and Georgia Small. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Greer, her daughter, Frances G. Swinson, her brothers, Major Small, Lester Small and Harold Small, sisters Christine Taylor, Catherine Reynolds, and Louise Lee.

Jewel was a lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Church CWF. She faithfully served her church and community by her many acts of kindness and generosity.

Jewel loved bowling, fishing, gardening, and tending to her family and her extended family's every need.

Survivors include her children, Patricia and Sam Watkins of Bradenton, Florida, Helen and Horace King, Jr. of Pink Hill, Francis Swinson of Pink Hill, Ed and Judy Greer of Pink Hill, Carol McGee of Pink Hill, Nancy and Roger Waller of Kinston, Marty and Annette Greer of Kinston, Jeff and Joanne Greer of Pink Hill; siblings Ruby Small and Hilda Taylor of Pink Hill, Richard Small of Spring Lake Florida. Other survivors include 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services and interment will be held Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributins may be made to the Memorial Fund at Pleasant Hill Church, c/o Pat Whaley, 364 Vine Swamp Road, Kinston, NC 28504.

Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010. Funeral services and interment will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church.
