CAROL DUNN TYNDALL

July 12, 1938 – September 8, 2018

KINSTON – Agnes Carol Dunn Tyndall, aged 80, passed away on September 8, 2018. Carol was born July 12, 1938 to Alfred Kedar Dunn and Annie Belle Whitman Dunn in Albertson, North Carolina. Carol was the 6th child of eight children. She is pre-deceased by her parents, and brothers Alvin Wilson Dunn, Alton Kedar Dunn (Shorty), Allen Joseph Dunn (Tootsie), Archie Louis Dunn, and Alfred Ray Dunn. She is survived by her beloved sisters Amelia Katherine Dunn Cottle Harrell of Kinston, NC and Ann Elizabeth Dunn Gilbert and husband David Gilbert of Mocksville, NC, her favorite son Kenneth Franklin Tyndall II and daughter-in-law Sue Hardison of Wendell, NC, her favorite daughter Anita Carol Tyndall Dunn and son-in-law Joseph Dunn of Pine Bush, NY, and her most beloved grandchild Anita Jordan Tyndall of Greensboro, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol attended B.F. Grady School class of 1956 where she played basketball with the champion Panthers. She graduated from Hardbarger Business School with a secretarial degree. She began her banking career at First Citizens Bank in Pink Hill in 1960 and continued with Bank of North Carolina in Kinston through 1976. She began her second career as a real estate broker in 1976, often selling over$1 million in real estate in a year. During her career she was a real estate college instructor at Lenoir Community College and Pitt Community College and a state certified appraiser. For 14 years, she and Anita promoted the Kinston Winter Bluegrass Festival each February at LCC. She was known as the “Queen of Bluegrass” because of her love for bluegrass music. She was known by many as “the Hat Lady” for her wide variety of hats she wore. She was an active member and President of the American Business Women’s Association. She was an active member and volunteer with the Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Library, Lenoir County Crimestoppers, and the Hog Happening.  She won numerous awards throughout her career including the Athena Outstanding Award for most outstanding business woman in 1991 and the H. Frank Brown Membership Award in 1993. She also loved attending the Kinston Indians Baseball games.

A celebration of life will be held from 6pm to 8pm, Monday, September 10, 2018 at Pink Hill Funeral Home, Inc.  Pastor Rick Vernon will be offering words of remembrance at 7pm.

The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the staff at Lenoir Assisted Living in Pink Hill, North Carolina and the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, Kinston, North Carolina. The family requests that friends consider volunteering to do activities for the residents of Lenoir Assisted Living with their local church family.
