Bobby Allen “Hoss” Herring, 81, passed away Wednesday February 7, 2018, at his home residence surrounded by his family.

Hoss was well known in the community and very loved by family and friends.  He had a long career in the logging and farming industries.  In his retirement years he and his dog “Snoop” enjoyed raising grandchildren, being with family and contributing to the NC lottery.

Hoss was survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Wilkins Herring; four children; daughter Bobbie “Tinsy” Smith and husband John; son Terry Herring and wife Sheila; daughter Elsie Thigpen and husband Rick; son Timothy Herring and Amy Whaley;  sister Shirley Stroud; stepmother Elizabeth Herring; brother Kendrick Herring and wife Bonnie; sister Rose Davis and husband Billy; seven grandchildren, Milton “Runt” Herring and wife Jessica; Nick Herring and wife Hannah; Alexis Smith; Morgan Herring; Maygan Herring; Makelle Herring and Taylor Brooke Thigpen. Five great-grandchildren, Mallory Herring; Madison Herring; Brailynn Herring; Tristan Herring and Grayson Russ.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Pink Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Pink Hill Funeral Home followed by the burial at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
