Ava Susan Lee Wood, 70, of Kinston passed away Friday, May 10, 2019. She was born on August 19, 1948, to Robert Edward Lee and Virginia Louise Small Lee. She graduated from South Lenoir High School in 1966 and married her sweetheart, David Mack Wood, on May 9th of the same year. She served as an assistant in the Catawba County and Lenoir County School Systems.

She loved music and loved to dance. She was a gifted cook and spent endless hours outside tending to her flowers.

Susan was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend who is survived by her husband of 53 years, David Mack Wood of Kinston; her two children, Jason Courtland Wood of Raleigh and Kathryn Alexis Wood of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Jo Ann Lee Miller of Pleasant Hill; special nephew, Franklin Lee Miller of Pleasant Hill, in addition to nieces, grandnieces, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; sister, Peggy Joyce Lee Murphy; Brothers-in-law Robert Bruce (R.B.) Miller and Thomas Ivey (Tim) Murphy; nephew, Bruce Edward Miller; and grandniece, Melissa Ann Stancill.

A celebration of her life will be held at Pink Hill Funeral Home at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2019. Susan’s family invites her friends and loved ones to share their fond memories of her at the service. Visitation will follow the service.
